Alcohol-related traffic fatalities dropped slightly between 2004 and 2005 according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This drop occurred even as the number of vehicles and the number of vehicle miles traveled continued to increase over time.
Thirty-nine percent of all traffic fatalities, or 16,885 were alcohol-related in 2005. That’s still 16,885 too many deaths. We can and must to better.
