ANY ALCOHOL IN MODERATION MAY BOOST HEALTH

A study of nearly 20,000 Spaniards found that moderate consumption of any alcohol -- beer, wine, or spirits -- was linked to better overall health, compared to abstinence from alcohol.

Using data from Spain's National Health Survey, researchers at the Universidad Autonoma in Madrid found the link between moderate drinking and better health remeined even after considering such factors as age, smoking, exercise, and the presence of chronic conditions including heart disease and diabetes.
