Dr. Morton Gronbaek of the Institute for Preventive Medicine in Copenhagen reports that consuming up to 21 drinks per week for men and 14 for women tends to protect against coronary heart disease. "The risk drops by 30-50% if you drink a little alcohol" says Dr. Gronbaek. He emphasizes that by not drinking alcohol, a person increases risk of heart disease by the same amount as people who either don't get exercise or have high cholesterol.
