Drinking alcohol in moderation (1-2 drinks per day for women and 2-4 for men) was found to reduce risk of mortality significantly, compared to abstaining from alcohol. That’s the finding of a meta-analysis of 34 studies of alcohol and total mortality among 1,015,835 men and women around the world.
The research confirmed that mortality is reduced when alcohol is consumed in moderation but begins to increased if it is consumed at levels above two drinks per day for women and four drinks per day for men.
