FEWER YOUNG ARE HEAVY DRINKERS

The proportion of 12 to 17 year olds in the United States who drink heavily dropped over one-half (over 50%) between 1985 and 1997.

Dr. H. Wesley Clark, director of the National Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, credits this dramatic drop to such things as an increase in health consciousness, increased public education, and greater parental involvement.
