The National Survey on Drug Use and Health, conducted by the U.S. government, reports a continuing decline in underage drinking.
Among youth 12 to 17 years of age, drinking alcohol during the past month dropped 8.2% over the previous year. So-called "binge " drinking dropped 9.3% among the same age group and heavy drinking dropped 13.0% in that group over the previous year.
The survey also reported a continuing decline among those 12 to 17 years of age who reported that it is "fairly easy" or "very easy" to obtain alcoholic beverages.
